Sustainability in Textile

The use of textiles has significantly increased as a result of the growth in the global population and the rise in living standards. Today, over 80 million tons of textiles and ready-to-wear garments are produced annually on a global basis. Therefore, it is crucial to improve this industry’s environmental performance. Due to the depletion of natural resources and rising expenses of waste management, recycling textile waste is becoming more and more significant globally. Along with assessments of the sustainability of the textile and garment industries, this study should also look at how commonly used water affects the environment. We advise using certified materials made with water conservation and waste recycling in mind for wearable product groups during the project realization process since, as the saying goes, “No source of life is endless.”

This study’s objective is to look at businesses in terms of environmental awareness, sustainability, and green business practices. In this vein, it was determined what causes companies to receive the OEKO-TEX Norm 100 certification, which is an environmental standard. Second, efforts have been made to assess the status and degree of environmental activity fulfillment in relation to company operations including manufacturing, marketing, financing, R&D, and human resources. Thirdly, it has been looked into to see if there is a connection between green business practices for environmental sustainability and enterprise performance metrics.

The textile and ready-made clothes sector in Turkey is one of the most significant sectors in terms of export figures, employment values, and production amounts, accounting for about 22% of export earnings. The textile and ready-made apparel industries employ about 2 million people. Important environmental issues arise in our nation and around the world in direct proportion to the scale of the sector. One of the most widely utilized fibers in the creation of textiles is cotton. However, excessive water use and the use of pesticides in cotton production have further exacerbated environmental issues. Since cotton is produced using a large portion of the pesticides used worldwide, “organic cotton,” which is recommended as a cotton substitute, is becoming more and more popular worldwide.

Compared to traditional production, organic agriculture has a good impact on the environment, the economy, and social development because organic cotton and the textile items manufactured from it go through a production process that is sensitive to both the environment and people. The purpose of this study is to identify the environmental impacts of conventional cotton cultivation and organic cotton production for textile manufacture that is sustainable. Investigations were done into the use, production, and present effects of organic cotton. The manufacture of organic cotton is related to ideas like ecological production and sustainability, both of which have gained popularity in recent years. For the survival of the textile sector, one of the most essential aspects of our economy, organic cotton production is crucial.

Tekstilde  Sürdürülebilirlik

Dünya nüfusundaki artış ve yaşam standartlarındaki gelişme sonucunda tekstil tüketiminde önemli bir artış söz konusu olmuştur. Günümüzde küresel ölçekte tekstil ve hazır giyim üretimi yıllık 80 milyon tonun üzerinde gerçekleşmektedir. Dolayısıyla bu endüstrinin çevresel performansının iyileştirilmesi büyük önem taşımaktadır. Doğal kaynakların tükenmesi ve atık imha maliyetlerinin yükselmesi sebepleriyle, tekstil atıklarının geri dönüşümü tüm dünyada giderek önem kazanmaktadır. Bu çalışmada tekstil ve hazır giyim sektörünün sürdürülebilirliğine ilişkin değerlendirmelerin yanı sıra, yaygın olarak kullanılan suların çevresel etkilerinin incelendiğini görmek gerekir. Tekstilde sertifikasyon ve çevresel sürdürülebilirlik;

“Hiçbir yaşam kaynağı sonsuz değildir” bilinciyle proje gerçekleştirme sürecinde giyilebilir ürün grupları için su tasarrufu ve atıkların geri dönüştürülmesi düşünülerek üretilen sertifikalı kumaşların kullanılmasını öneriyoruz.

Bu çalışmanın amacı işletmeleri çevresel sürdürülebilirlik bilinci, çevre duyarlılığı ve yeşil işletmecilik faaliyetleri açısından incelemektir. Bu yönde ilk olarak işletmeleri, bir çevre standardı olan OEKO-TEX Standart 100 sertifikası almaya yönelten faktörler araştırılmıştır. İkinci olarak işletmelerin üretim, pazarlama, finansman, Ar-Ge ve insan kaynakları gibi işletme fonksiyonlarına ilişkin çevresel faaliyetleri yerine getirme durumları ve düzeyleri tespit edilmeye çalışılmıştır. Üçüncü olarak ise çevresel sürdürülebilirliğe yönelik yeşil işletmecilik faaliyetleri ile işletmelerin başarı göstergeleri arasında bir ilişki olup olmadığı araştırılmıştır.

Türkiye’de; ihracat rakamları, istihdam değerleri ve üretim miktarları açısından tekstil ve hazır giyim sektörü, en önemli sektörlerinden birisidir ve ihracat gelirlerinin yaklaşık olarak %22’sıni karşılamaktadır. Tekstil ve hazır giyim sektöründe yaklaşık 2 milyon kişi çalışmaktadır. Sektörün büyüklüğü ile paralel olarak ülkemizde ve dünyada önemli çevresel sorunlar oluşmaktadır. Tekstil üretiminde en yoğun kullanılan liflerden birisi pamuktur. Ancak pamuk üretiminde kullanılan kimyasallar ve aşırı su tüketimi ekolojik sorunların da artmasına neden olmuştur. Dünyada kullanılan tarım ilaçlarının önemli bir bölümü pamuk üretiminde kullanılmaktadır ve bu yüzden pamuğa alternatif olarak öne sürülen “organik pamuk”a olan talep dünyada ve ülkemizde giderek artmaktadır. Organik pamuk ve organik pamuktan yapılan tekstil ürünleri çevreye ve insana duyarlı bir üretim sürecinden geçmektedir, bu nedenle organik tarım geleneksel üretime göre çevreye, ekonomiye ve sosyal gelişmeye olumlu katkı sağlayan bir üretim biçimidir. Bu araştırmanın amacı, tekstilde sürdürülebilir üretim için geleneksel pamuk üretimi ve organik pamuk üretimi sırasında ortaya çıkan çevresel etkileri tespit etmektir. Organik pamuğun kullanımı ve üretimi ile süreçler ve günümüzdeki etkileri araştırılmıştır. Son yıllarda dünyada öne çıkan ekolojik üretim ve sürdürülebilirlik gibi kavramlarla, organik pamuk üretimi oldukça örtüşmektedir. Ekonomik hayatımızın vazgeçilmezlerinden biri olan tekstil sektörünün geleceği için organik pamuk üretimi oldukça önemlidir
